They actually have signed artists, like ones you've heard of before, but the large majority are unsigned independents. And hey, maybe that a good thing for you. It's a community-style site, you have a profile, photos, music previews, comments, friends/fans, the works. Message boards for each band, gig calendars, just tons of stuff. The profile here covers the free stuff, but there are optional paid services. This profile last updated 2008-05-21.
